Streaming platforms in Italy
RAI, Mediaset and La7 give Italy a strong free layer. Here is what is worth paying for on top, and why football takes the biggest bite of the bill.
The smart way to pay for streaming in Italy
Start with what costs nothing, because Italy gives a lot away. RaiPlay streams the RAI channels and a deep archive of films and series, a free, optional sign-up to Mediaset Infinity opens 15 live channels including Canale 5, Italia 1 and Rete 4, and La7 covers news and political talk. Nexo TV, Serially and Play2000 fill in with themed channels, foreign series and Catholic programming. Then pick one paid anchor you keep all year and rotate the rest around the series you actually want, canceling when the season ends.
Pick by what you actually watch
- Free, no subscription: RaiPlay for RAI and dramas like Mare Fuori and Doc, Mediaset Infinity for Canale 5 and Italia 1, La7 for news, plus Nexo TV, Serially and Play2000.
- Binge-worthy series and prestige drama: Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, Apple TV, Paramount+ and Prime Video.
- Italy’s Sky without a contract: NOW, whose Entertainment Pass brings Sky Originals like Gomorra and M. Il figlio del secolo along with HBO series.
- Film and auteur cinema: MYmovies ONE, The Film Club, CG TV Streaming and MUBI, Infinity+ for big titles, and Chili to rent film by film.
- Horror and anime: Midnight Factory and Anime Generation as add-ons inside Prime Video, and Crunchyroll for the rest.
- Football and sport: DAZN and Sky or NOW for Serie A, Sportitalia for free, LBA TV for basketball and SuperTennis+ for tennis.
Football is where the bill climbs
Serie A is split for the 2024/25 to 2028/29 cycle. DAZN shows all 10 matches of every round, seven of them exclusively, while Sky and NOW carry the other three, shared with DAZN. The Champions League adds another layer: in 2026/27 Sky and NOW have 185 of the 203 matches plus the whole Europa League and Conference League, and Prime Video takes the top Wednesday game. A full fan setup means DAZN, Sky or NOW, and sometimes Prime Video for that one fixture.
Bundles that fold several apps into one
Italy is big on aggregation. TIMVISION’s S, M and L bundles pair TIMVISION Play (Eurosport, discovery+, CNN International) with partners: S adds HBO Max, Netflix and Infinity+, M adds Disney+, L adds Prime Video, with the partners on ad-supported plans. The catch is that you need a TIM line, and tim.it sells them as an annual offer in 12 monthly installments. Sky Stream puts Sky, free channels and apps like Netflix, DAZN and RaiPlay on one box, though each app is still paid separately.
Mediaset Infinity Italia is the Italian streaming service of Mediaset, part of the MFE Media For Europe group. It streams 15 channels live, including Canale 5, Italia 1, Rete 4, and Tgcom24, plus on-demand shows, movies, and reality hits like Grande Fratello VIP. Soccer fans get Coppa Italia matches live and free. The base tier is free with ads. Registration is optional but unlocks the live channels and full episodes. The paid GOLD experience add-on cuts ad breaks by roughly half, per the help center, and adds Full HD and downloads. Paid Infinity+ brings movies and series in 4K with HDR. It runs on the web, iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Fire TV, smart TVs, and PlayStation. Outside Italy, the free tier doesn’t work, not even elsewhere in the EU. Within the EU, it plays only if you activated GOLD experience or Infinity+ in Italy. In the US, the official option is the paid Mediaset International channel, with a narrower lineup. With a VPN server in Italy, though, you can stream Mediaset Infinity from anywhere, just as you would in Italy: the free tier stays free, and the paid packs run on your own subscription.
RaiPlay is the ultimate destination for high quality Italian television, featuring an extensive library of award winning films, gripping dramas like Mare Fuori, and live channels. While most content is free to watch, strict geographic restrictions apply outside of Italy, making a reliable VPN essential for international viewers and expats wanting to stay connected to Italian culture.
Sky Go Italia is Sky Italia’s app for Sky subscribers, listed in app stores simply as Sky Go. It comes with your subscription at no extra cost, but you can’t buy it on its own. The app streams the live channels in your package, such as Sky Atlantic and Sky Cinema, plus thousands of on-demand titles. Sky Sport or Sky Calcio adds all of Formula 1 and MotoGP, plus 3 of the 10 matches in each Serie A round. Download & Play saves selected titles offline, and Restart rewinds selected live shows to the start. It runs on phones, tablets, and computers in up to HD 720p, on 4 registered devices with one stream at a time. It’s built for Italy. Italian residents with a home Sky subscription can use it temporarily elsewhere in the EU if they downloaded the app in Italy and sign in from Italy at least every 37 days. Rai channels play only within Italy. Outside the EU and the EEA, including the US, it doesn’t work.
NOW Italia is Sky Italia’s streaming service, with no contract and no satellite dish. On the website and in the app, it goes simply by NOW. Monthly Passes you can cancel anytime bring live Sky channels and on-demand shows. The Entertainment Pass covers Sky TV channels, full series, Sky Originals like Gomorra and MasterChef Italia, and HBO hits like House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. Cinema comes only bundled with Entertainment and adds over 1,000 movies. The Sport Pass streams Formula 1 and MotoGP in full, most Champions League games, and 3 of the 10 matches in each Serie A round. The Premium add-on removes on-demand ads and allows two streams at once. It runs on the web, phones, smart TVs, Apple TV, Fire TV, Xbox, and PlayStation, topping out at Full HD, or 720p on computers and phones. The service is built for Italy. Italian residents with an active Pass can watch temporarily elsewhere in the EU. Outside the EU, including the US, NOW doesn’t work at all.
La7 is a national Italian TV network owned by the Cairo Communication group. On la7.it and in the La7 app, it streams the La7 and La7 Cinema channels live, plus shows from the past 7 days on demand. Everything is free and supported by ads that run before and during videos. News and current affairs are its core: TG La7, Otto e Mezzo, Propaganda Live, and Omnibus. La7 Cinema adds movies, both live and on demand. The free app runs on iOS, Android, Android TV, Samsung and LG smart TVs, Hisense VIDAA, Amazon Fire TV Stick, and HbbTV. Live streams play in 720p. Cairo has also announced a new platform called La7 Play, with its own app, for fall 2026. The network publishes no rules for viewers abroad, so the player settings on la7.it decide. Based on those settings, live La7 and on-demand shows can be watched outside Italy, though this may vary for individual shows. The La7 Cinema channel and its movies are blocked outside Italy.
Infinity+ Italia is the paid movie and series channel inside the Italian Mediaset Infinity app, listed on Mediaset’s site simply as Infinity+. It offers thousands of movies, series, and animated titles, such as Harry Potter, Oppenheimer, and The Godfather, some also in their original language. Part of the catalog streams in 4K with HDR. One subscription covers two streams at once, even on different networks. You can set up to six profiles, including a kids profile, and lock content with a parental control PIN. Downloads work right in the app. GOLD experience is included, adding Full HD and Super Restart to free Mediaset Infinity content. The service runs on the web, phones, Apple TV, Fire TV, smart TVs, and PlayStation. The 7-day trial is free, but a payment method is required upfront. The subscription is sold in Italy. Elsewhere in the EU, you can watch only if you activated it in Italy. Outside the EU, Infinity+ doesn’t work. The official alternative is Mediaset International, a narrower, separate paid channel.
TIMVISION is the TV and streaming service from Italian carrier TIM (Telecom Italia). Every plan includes TIMVISION Play, its own catalog of movies, series, cartoons, and family shows, plus Eurosport channels live and on demand, the full discovery+ catalog, and Mediaset and La7 channels with the past week’s shows. The S, M, and L bundles combine partner services on a single TIM bill: S adds HBO Max, Netflix, and Infinity+, M adds Disney+, and L adds Amazon Prime. The bundles require a TIM landline or mobile line and are annual contracts paid in monthly installments. Without a TIM line, you can only get standalone TIMVISION, billed monthly by card and cancelable anytime. It streams on the web, phones and tablets, smart TVs, Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, and Xbox One. The TIMVISION Box, an Android TV decoder, handles 4K, as does select partner content. Sales are limited to Italy. Under its terms, subscribers traveling in the EU can access the catalog from their mobile devices. Outside the EU, including the US, the terms offer no access.
Sky Stream Italia is Sky Italia’s internet box: a compact unit that plugs into your TV over HDMI and delivers a Sky subscription over the internet, with no dish and no installer visit. You don’t buy it; Sky lends it to you. It runs Entertainment OS, the same software as the Sky Glass TV. Your whole Sky subscription plays live and on demand, while partner apps, billed separately, sit in the same interface alongside free-to-air channels. Pause and Restart work even on live broadcasts, including Rai, Mediaset, and La7, and you can steer everything by voice. A DVB-T2 tuner picks up terrestrial channels through an antenna when the internet is down. What’s missing: the box can’t record or download, and 4K requires the Sky Ultra HD add-on. The terms tie the box to its installation address in Italy. You can move it to another home within Italy, but not abroad. On trips around the EU, the official route is Sky Go, included with the subscription, for Italian residents. Outside the EU and EEA, including the US, the terms offer no access.
Chili is an Italian streaming service run since 2012 by CHILI S.p.A., a company based in Milan. It works differently from Netflix: instead of a recurring subscription, you pay for individual titles. You pick a film or a full season of a show, pay once, and the rental is yours to watch. A rented title stays available for 28 days, and once you press play you have 48 hours to finish it. Alongside that, a free section lets you stream selected movies at no cost in exchange for ads. The catalog spans thousands of films and series, from fresh cinema releases to cult classics, with many titles available in 4K HDR. You can watch on the web, on iOS and Android apps, on smart TVs, game consoles, or through Chromecast, Apple TV and Fire TV. The service also sells DVDs and Blu-rays. Chili is available only in Italy, Germany, Austria, Poland and the United Kingdom.
Sportitalia is a free Italian sports channel built mostly around soccer. In Italy it airs over the air on channel 60 and streams live on the web and in the app, with no subscription and no sign-up. The broadcast carries ads. It is run by Milan-based Italia Sport Communication. Besides the main Sportitalia HD feed, the web and app offer SoloCalcio, Primavera TV, and Lazio Style, the channel of S.S. Lazio. It holds exclusive rights to Campionato Primavera 1, Italy’s under-20 league, including the Coppa Italia Primavera and Supercoppa Primavera, for the 2024/25 to 2026/27 cycle, plus Argentina’s Liga Profesional exclusively through 2027 and three matches per round of the Saudi Pro League in 2025/26 and 2026/27. It also aired the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations exclusively. Its core, though, is transfer news from its own newsroom. Watch in a browser, on iPhone, iPad, and Android, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Rakuten TV, and Samsung smart TVs. The operator publishes no rules for viewing from abroad. Sports rights are usually licensed country by country, so the live stream may not play outside Italy.
Serially is a free Italian streaming service funded by ads. It’s built around foreign series getting their Italian premiere, from European imports to Asian dramas. It suits Italians living or traveling abroad and series fans who are comfortable with Italian and like discovering shows that no Italian broadcaster had picked up. Shows come with Italian dubbing or in the original language with Italian subtitles, and the whole interface is Italian only. You watch in a web browser on a computer or phone, with no subscription and no paid tier, so the only price you pay is the advertising. The site only lets Italian connections in, and the rest of the world, other EU countries included, stays locked out. There’s no official route for viewers outside Italy. With a VPN server in Italy, though, you can watch Serially free from anywhere, just like viewers in Italy.
SuperTennis+ is the streaming service of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP), known as SuperTenniX until August 2026. Without signing up, you get news and a selection of on-demand shows; a free registration adds the SuperTennis TV channel live, 24 hours a day. A Premium subscription opens every court through multiple simultaneous channels, plus the full on-demand catalog, and FITP members get Premium at no extra cost. Premium covers every WTA tournament, the full US Open, the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup, the United Cup, a range of ATP Challenger events, and FITP tournaments in tennis, padel, beach tennis, and pickleball, plus highlights, interviews, and full match replays. Watch on the web, on iPhone, iPad, and Android, on Android TV and Samsung TVs, and on Amazon Fire TV, on up to 2 devices at the same time. The terms define the service territory as Italy, San Marino, and Vatican City, and some content may be available only there, depending on broadcast rights; they don’t say which events. The SuperTennis+ app is listed only in the Italian App Store, but the website, plus.supertennis.tv, is reachable, and you pay by card on the website only.
Play2000 is the free streaming platform of TV2000 and InBlu2000, the Catholic TV and radio stations of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI), run by Rome-based Rete Blu. It launched in January 2024 on the feast of St. Francis de Sales, patron saint of journalists. It streams both stations live and offers an on-demand library of films, documentaries, docuseries, telenovelas, cartoons, Tg2000 news, and podcasts. It’s free, with no subscription and no rentals. The interface and programs are in Italian, with picks like the telenovela Terra Nostra. The motto “In ogni luogo,” meaning everywhere, matches the device lineup: smartphone, tablet, computer, and smart TV. By the end of 2025, more than 550,000 users were watching at least once a week, and more than half of them were over 55. Play2000 publishes no rules on viewing from abroad or on VPNs. With a VPN server in Italy, you can watch Play2000 free from anywhere, just as you would in Italy.
MYmovies ONE is a paid Italian streaming service for arthouse, festival and independent cinema from MYmovies.it, the film portal Italians use for reviews and showtimes, run by Rome-based Mo-Net. Alongside classics grouped into curated collections, it offers European series, documentaries and short films. It’s aimed at film buffs and Italians abroad who want festival highlights and European and Asian auteur classics. There’s no free tier and no free trial; you choose between ad-supported Basic and ad-free Premium or Signature. You can watch on the web, iPhone and iPad, Android, Apple TV, Android TV, Samsung TVs from 2020 models onward, LG and Amazon Fire TV Stick. Films can be watched only from Italy. Customer support answers seven days a week by chat, email and phone. With a VPN server in Italy, you can watch MYmovies ONE from anywhere, just as you would in Italy, on a subscription you pay for yourself.
LBA TV is the official streaming service of Italy’s Serie A basketball league, Lega Basket Serie A, run by Turin tech company Deltatre. It carries the full Serie A regular season, the playoffs, the Supercoppa, the Coppa Italia Final Eight, and the Next Gen Cup, live and on demand, plus highlights, interviews, an archive, and LBA Originals shows. A free account unlocks selected games; full competitions need a paid subscription, either a monthly pass with no commitment or a pass for the whole season, sold only on the website. Watch in a browser, on iPhone, iPad, and Android, Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, LG TVs (2021 and later), and Samsung TVs (2018 and later), or cast via Chromecast and AirPlay. Limits: one stream at a time per account, no profiles, no downloads. Per the FAQ, you can buy LBA TV only in Italy, with an Italian card. The terms don’t allow access from outside Italy, except under the EU cross-border portability regulation for Italian subscribers traveling within the EU; outside the EU, including the US, they grant no access, and the FAQ is stricter still. With a VPN server in Italy, though, you can watch LBA TV from anywhere on your own subscription, just as you would in Italy.
Nexo TV is a free, ad-supported Italian streaming service from Nexo Studios, run by Nexo Digital in Milan. It replaced the paid Nexo+ and now needs no sign-up or subscription. Ads before videos and commercial breaks cover the cost. The lineup centers on over 20 themed channels streaming 24/7, such as SuperCinema, Western Time, Crime Time, and La grande Arte. On demand, there are movies and Nexo Studios art documentaries on Klimt, Monet, Modigliani, and Goya. Since the Nexo+ days, the focus has widened: culture is still there, but action, westerns, horror, and Italian comedy now share the spotlight. Watch at play.nexotv.it or in the apps for iOS, Android, and Android TV. Nexo TV channels also appear on Samsung TV Plus and LG Channels. The terms limit access to Italy, San Marino, and Vatican City, plus temporary use elsewhere in the EU. Outside the EU, the terms grant no access. The iPhone and iPad app is listed only in the Italian App Store, so start with the web player.
Midnight Factory is the horror channel of the Italian film label of the same name, owned by Milan-based PLAION, known as Koch Media until August 2022. It isn’t a standalone app or streaming site: you subscribe to it as a paid add-on inside another service. In Italy that means Mediaset Infinity, or Prime Video Channels, where you need Amazon Prime first. The lineup covers horror, psychological thrillers, and dark fantasy: indie films alongside titles from big names in the genre, often Italian premieres, with new additions every month. The label dates back to 2015 and, for its tenth anniversary, reported more than 13 million hours streamed. Since May 2026 there’s also a separate German Midnight Factory channel on Prime Video in Germany, with a selection that only partly overlaps with Italy’s. The channel is sold in Italy and tied to the country on your account, so the Italian lineup needs an Italian account. With a VPN server in Italy, you can then watch the channel from anywhere, just as you would in Italy. You pay for the channel and for Prime Video or Mediaset Infinity yourself.
Anime Generation is an Italian paid anime channel on Prime Video Channels, run by Milan-based anime publisher Yamato Video, formally Yamato S.r.l. Yamato launched it in December 2021 to mark its 30th birthday. It isn’t a standalone app: Amazon Prime members add it as a paid add-on without downloading anything else and watch it right inside Prime Video. The lineup is all anime, films and series alike: classics from the Yamato library, new Italian dubs, and simulcasts airing alongside Japan. The first simulcast, Futsal Boys, arrived in January 2022, and new titles keep coming. The channel is aimed at an Italian audience and built around Italian dubbing, so don’t count on other language versions. The channel is offered on Prime Video in Italy, and neither Yamato nor Amazon says whether an account from another country can add it.
The Film Club is a paid Italian film service with the tagline L’altra metà del cinema, the other half of cinema. It focuses on auteur, genre, cult and rare films, from spaghetti westerns and poliziotteschi to restored classics. The subscription itself is operated under contract by New World Technology Sagl, a Swiss company based in Chiasso. It suits Italians abroad and fans of cult and Italian genre cinema. Beyond Premium with the full catalog, you can subscribe to single themed channels, so you only pay for the genre you enjoy. Series and documentaries sit alongside the films, though film stays at the center. There are no ads and no free tier. The subscription can be taken out only in Italy, and for viewers in the US the terms offer no official route. With a VPN server in Italy, though, you can watch The Film Club from anywhere on your own subscription, just as you would in Italy.
CG TV Streaming is a paid Italian film service from the distributor that longtime film fans remember as Cecchi Gori Home Video. Its catalog covers arthouse and international cinema, restored classics, animated features, documentaries, horror, thrillers and Italian comedy, plus cult titles that are hard to find. It is built for viewers in Italy who love Italian and European auteur cinema. One website sells subscriptions alongside single film rentals, so you can choose between the whole catalog and a single evening with one specific title. Everything plays in a web browser, and the lineup rewards viewers who like digging into restored classics and festival cinema. Purchases and viewing are meant for Italy. With a VPN server in Italy, you switch your virtual location and can watch CG TV Streaming from anywhere, just as you would in Italy, using your own subscription or rental.
DAZN is a sports-first streaming service built to compete with traditional pay-TV sports channels. The schedule shifts dramatically from country to country: in Germany it carries the Bundesliga and Champions League matches, in Italy it owns the majority of Serie A, in Japan it runs baseball and boxing. The global side of DAZN remains its combat sports division, where it has become one of the biggest buyers of marquee boxing pay-per-view events.
Netflix didn’t invent streaming but it set the rules everyone else now plays by. With 325 million paying subscribers across 190 countries and a stable of shows like Squid Game, Stranger Things and Wednesday, it still defines what mainstream streaming looks like. Recent pushes into live sports and ad-supported plans show the company is willing to bend its own playbook when the market demands it.
Max is Warner Bros. Discovery’s attempt to keep everything important in one app: HBO’s prestige catalogue, the DC Universe, Warner Bros. theatrical slate and the reality-heavy Discovery library. The product still leans on HBO’s reputation for Sunday-night event TV (Succession, The Last of Us, House of the Dragon) but the expanded library means there is something for almost every household.
Apple TV (formerly Apple TV+) takes the opposite approach to almost everyone else: no licensed back catalogue, only original productions. The result is a comparatively small library where misses are rare and hits like Ted Lasso, Severance, Slow Horses and For All Mankind have picked up Emmys. A single tier covers 4K HDR with Dolby Atmos, and the service is bundled into Apple One for households already invested in the Apple ecosystem.
How Italy’s streaming market is built
Italian TV rests on two big broadcasting groups, public RAI and commercial Mediaset, with La7 alongside them. Together they give viewers a free layer that covers a lot of evenings: RaiPlay streamed the Sanremo festival and the 2026 Winter Olympics, and Mediaset Infinity counted 23.6 million registered users and more than 1 billion hours watched in 2025. Paid services compete on top of that, led by Sky at home and the global names from abroad.
The RAI license fee comes with the electricity bill
RAI is funded by the canone, a license fee of €90 for 2026. It is billed in ten installments on the electricity bill from January to October and charged once per household that owns a television, not per device or per app. That is why RaiPlay itself costs nothing: the fee is tied to the TV set. After a temporary cut in 2024, it went back to €90 in 2025.
Sky comes in three shapes
Sky is the big paid player at home. You can take it by satellite or as Sky Stream, a loaned box that delivers Sky over the internet with no dish, adds a DVB-T2 tuner, pause and restart, but cannot record or download; 4K HDR needs the Sky Ultra HD add-on. Sky Go is the app every Sky subscriber gets, and it is not sold on its own. NOW is Sky with no contract, online only, sold in Passes you can cancel anytime, and on-demand shows carry ads unless you add Premium, while live channels always do.
Why football is the expensive part
The rights are spread across services. Serie A goes to DAZN, with all 10 matches per round through 2028/29, and to Sky, with three of them shared with DAZN. The Champions League sits with Sky and NOW, and Sky has already announced it for 2027/28 through 2030/31, while Prime Video picks one Wednesday match. NOW’s Sport Pass adds the Premier League, Bundesliga, Formula 1 and MotoGP. The one big exception is the Coppa Italia, free on Mediaset Infinity through 2026/27.
Film niches live inside Prime Video
By the Sensemakers estimate, Prime Video is the largest paid service in Italy, at around 11 million subscriptions measured on connected TVs. Part of its pull is Prime Video Channels, where Italian niche services live as add-ons: Midnight Factory for horror and dark thrillers, Anime Generation from Yamato Video with classics, Italian dubs and simulcasts from Japan, and LaB Channel with every Serie BKT match of each round. HBO Max, for its part, has been a standalone service in Italy since January 13, 2026.
When a VPN comes in handy for foreign catalogs
If you want the foreign versions of services from inside Italy, such as the US Netflix catalog, a VPN with a server in that country gets you there. That is a different situation from everyday viewing at home, where Italian services need no VPN at all. The same idea runs the other way too: once you travel abroad, a VPN on an Italian server brings back RaiPlay, Mediaset Infinity and your NOW subscription as if you had never left.
