How to Watch Together TV from Anywhere: VPN Guide 2026
Together TV is a rare thing: the only national broadcaster on the planet owned by its own viewers, and entirely free, with no subscription. It runs as a community benefit society backed by over 200 shareholders, and it leans into warm, social-impact British telly. Founded in 2000 as the Community Channel, it has held that non-profit ethos ever since. Together TV is a genuinely free, supporter-owned British channel that has quietly built a loyal following across the UK with gardening, classic films and grounded documentaries about real communities.
Travel outside Britain, though, and the official player and apps go dark. Rights keep the service locked to UK addresses, and the apps are 18-plus and UK-only. A VPN fixes the geography: Surfshark swaps your apparent location to a British server, so the platform sees a UK IP and the archive opens up. Picture holds at 1080p, and once you connect it streams just like home.

Who’s behind the service?
What is Together TV
Together TV is a free British channel built around community and social impact, with a warm, feel good lineup. It started in 2000 as the Community Channel and took the name Together TV in 2018. Ownership sits with the Community Channel, a community benefit society backed by its supporters. The schedule mixes documentaries, real life stories, wellbeing programmes and classic British titles. It also runs the Diverse Film Fund, which commissions original short documentaries and has earned a BAFTA. Everything is completely free, with no subscription, and you can find it on Freeview channel 83. The player and apps, however, work only inside the UK.

Company and history
- Together TV launches on 18 September 2000 as the Community Channel, a UK non-profit station built to give airtime to charities, communities and causes that commercial TV tended to overlook.
- After a successful crowdfunder the station converts into a community benefit society owned by over 200 shareholders, creating its hallmark model of a national broadcaster owned by its own audience.
- On 16 January 2018 the channel rebrands as Together TV and returns to Freeview on channel 93, turning the old Community Channel into a modern feel-good TV brand.
- The channel sets up the Diverse Film Fund, a grant scheme for short documentaries by underrepresented filmmakers; its first cohort produces the acclaimed film Our Land.
- Our Land, made through the Diverse Film Fund, wins the BAFTA for Best Short Form Programme in May 2022, a huge prestige milestone for such a small non-profit channel.
- At the end of 2023 the channel returns to standard-definition broadcasting on Freeview 83 and widens its reach across Sky 170, Virgin 136 and Freesat, pushing free-to-air access back to the front.
- In April 2024 the Diverse Film Fund runs its Life Beyond Labels edition, focused on deaf, disabled and neurodivergent filmmakers, with Whisper and the BSLBT joining as partners.
- In September 2025 the channel marked 25 years since the Community Channel first aired, with a celebratory afternoon tea at the House of Lords hosted by Lord Grade and around 150 guests.

- Together TV is completely free with no signup, so you can start the live stream or browse on-demand at togethertv.com in seconds, no subscription required.

- Missed a show? Catch it on the Together TV+1 timeshift (channel 90 on an internet-connected TV) or in the on-demand section on the website.
- Don't skip the original shorts from the BAFTA-winning Diverse Film Fund, including the award winner Our Land, all gathered together in the online archive.
- The player and live stream are UK-only, so from abroad connect Surfshark to a British server first, then open the site to unlock everything.
