- Mickey O'Rourke launched MSK channels in the UK and Ireland in September 2009, filling the void left by the collapse of Setanta Sports. The aim was to build a dedicated pay-TV sports brand from scratch.
- MSK and MSK Extra rebranded as Premier Sports and Premier Sports Extra in July 2010, giving the channels a sharper identity ahead of larger sports rights deals.
- Premier Sports secured exclusive UK and Ireland rights to LaLiga in September 2019 covering the 2019/20 to 2021/22 seasons, becoming the primary broadcast home of Spanish football for British and Irish viewers.
- Mickey O'Rourke sold the channels to Viaplay Group for a reported 30 million GBP in July 2022. The Scandinavian streaming group rebranded them as Viaplay Sports 1 and 2 and promised expansion.
- Viaplay sold the UK operation back to SSBL after severe financial losses. On 9 April 2024 the channels relaunched as Premier Sports with an upgraded Premier Player streaming platform.
- Premier Sports renewed its URC deal through 2029 in April 2025 and launched a 24/7 dedicated channel, Premier Sports Rugby, covering URC, Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup.
- The channel and the SPFL expanded the Scottish Premiership deal in June 2025, adding two post-split bottom-six fixtures to bring the annual live match total to 22.
- DAZN acquired exclusive UK and Ireland Serie A rights from July 2025, ending Italian football coverage on the channel. Fans of Serie A had to migrate to a new platform.
- LaLiga confirmed three-year extensions with Premier Sports and Disney+ through 2027/28 in August 2025. The channel stayed the primary broadcaster with 340-plus live matches; Disney+ took Saturday primetime kick-offs.
