How to Watch Discovery+ from Anywhere: VPN Guide 2026
When Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed its 2025 plan to break into two companies, plenty of people assumed Discovery+ would fold into HBO Max and vanish. It did not. HBO Max goes to the Warner Bros. studio side, while Discovery+ stays on under the new Discovery Global networks company and keeps turning a profit, carrying the full archive of Discovery, TLC, ID, HGTV and Food Network. Across much of Europe it also pipes in live Eurosport. Watching Discovery+ abroad runs into one wall, though: licensing. Cross a border and the catalogue either swaps out or goes dark.
A VPN fixes that. Connect to a server back home, Discovery+ reads a local IP, and the door opens. Pick a provider that actually beats the Discovery+ geo-checks, or you will hit the rights-restriction notice. With NordVPN the streams hold up at up to 4K, so a new episode or a quarter-final never slips past you while you travel.

Quick answer
Can I watch Discovery+ abroad?
Yes, but you need a VPN. Outside your home country the service blocks you over licensing deals. Fire up NordVPN, pick a server in the country where you subscribed, and Discovery+ loads exactly as it does at home. Picture quality runs up to 4K, so TLC reality shows and Eurosport feeds look just as sharp on the road. It works on phones, laptops and TVs.

2
Connect a server back home
Open the VPN app and tap a server in the country where you hold the subscription. That hands you a local IP address.
3
Sign in to Discovery+
Launch the site or app, enter your details, and the library appears in your home market version.
4
Stream in high quality
Pick a title and play it at up to 4K. If the picture stutters, switch to a closer server or clear your browser cache.

⚠️
Steer clear of free VPNs. Most of them actually collect and sell your data, lack proper security audits, and can even expose you to malware. They’re also useless for streaming. Platforms block them instantly, leaving you with more headaches than solutions. Stick to paid VPNs with verified audits, like NordVPN, if you want something that actually works.
Discovery+ is the streaming arm of Warner Bros. Discovery’s factual and lifestyle TV empire, pulling together Discovery, TLC, ID, HGTV and Food Network under a single subscription. Reality formats, true crime, home renovation and cooking shows dominate the grid. In several European markets the service is also bundled with Eurosport live streams, turning it into a part-time sports destination.

Company and history
Major changes
Discovery+ launched in the United States on 4 January 2021 as a standalone service, bundling the Discovery, TLC, HGTV and Food Network archives into ad-supported and ad-free tiers.
The April 2022 merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia created Warner Bros. Discovery, placing Discovery+ under the same roof as the future HBO Max.
In May 2023 Warner Bros. Discovery launched Max and folded much of the Discovery+ slate into it, yet kept the service running on its own because it stayed profitable.
From 7 January 2025 Discovery+ raised its ad tier for the first time since launch, with US prices climbing to $5.99 and $9.99 a month amid a wider streamflation wave.
On 9 June 2025 Warner Bros. Discovery announced a split into two companies, assigning Discovery+ to the Discovery Global side alongside CNN, the cable networks and Bleacher Report.
Mid-July 2025 saw Max renamed back to HBO Max (announced 14 May), and on 28 July the post-split company names landed: the studio Warner Bros. and the networks firm Discovery Global holding Discovery+.
On 13 January 2026 Discovery+ closed in Germany, Austria and Italy, where HBO Max took over its content and Eurosport; the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics streamed on both.
Warner Bros. Discovery targets mid-2026 to complete the split; as of May 2026 it remains pending, but management confirmed Discovery+ will sit under the independent Discovery Global and stays on offer.

5 tips from our Discovery+ testing team · Updated June 18, 2026
1
If you mostly watch reality, true crime and cooking shows, standalone Discovery+ is cheaper than paying for full Max where the same titles cost more.
2
The ad-free annual plan works out to roughly ten months' worth of monthly fees, so pay yearly if you stream the service all year round.
3
Offline downloads for flights or spotty signal are locked to the ad-free tier only, so the cheaper ad-supported plan cannot save episodes.
4
Discovery+ ties your catalog to your signup country and blocks you abroad, so to reach your home shows on holiday connect NordVPN to a server back home.
5
In the UK and Ireland one subscription now bundles TNT Sports and Eurosport, so football and cycling fans skip buying a separate sports service.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before subscribing to Discovery+.
Yes. Launch NordVPN, connect to a server in your home country, and Discovery+ reads that local IP. Sign in as usual and the library loads just like at home. The key is picking a provider that genuinely clears the Discovery+ geo-blocks, since not every VPN manages it. If you hit a rights-restriction message, switch to another server in the same country or clear your cookies and try again.
Always choose a server in the country where you subscribed, not the one you are visiting. A US subscriber on holiday in Spain connects to a US server through NordVPN. That way Discovery+ sees a home IP and lets you in. Servers closer to your physical location usually give a faster, steadier Discovery+ picture, so start with the nearest ones available inside your home country.
A VPN is a legal tool and you can use it freely in almost every country. What you are touching is the Discovery+ terms of service, which set the regional limits, rather than any law. In practice this is a contractual matter, not a criminal one. If you pay for a valid Discovery+ subscription and simply want your own content while travelling, NordVPN gets you there cleanly.
Discovery+ runs two tiers, a cheaper ad-supported plan and a pricier ad-free one, and paying yearly usually beats paying monthly. Discovery+ prices vary by country and rose in the US after January 2025. Always check the current figure inside the app, because it shifts with the market and the ongoing move toward HBO Max. To reach the content abroad you also need NordVPN.
In many European markets, yes. Eurosport brings tennis grand slams, cycling and winter sports, and in January 2026 the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics streamed through Discovery+ too. The Discovery+ line-up differs market by market, and in some countries HBO Max has taken over the sport. While travelling, you reach the live feeds with NordVPN connected back to your home country.
You can watch Discovery+ on the web, on iOS and Android apps, on Samsung, LG and Sony smart TVs and Android TV, through Apple TV, Chromecast and Fire TV, and on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Run the VPN either on the device itself or on your router so it also covers the television. With NordVPN you can stay signed in across several devices at once.
The library is locked to per-country licences. The moment Discovery+ spots a foreign IP, it swaps the catalogue or shows a Discovery+ rights-restriction notice outright. This is not a bug but a contractual limit tied to rights holders. The fix is NordVPN, which returns your IP to your home country and restores access to exactly what you already pay for.
For Discovery+, Smart DNS sometimes works and it slows your speed less than an encrypted tunnel. It does not encrypt your traffic, though, and Discovery+ can detect it more easily, so reliability wobbles. For a steady result plus privacy on public networks, a full NordVPN is the safer bet, and it also handles other streaming platforms beyond this one.
In some countries it already has. From January 2026 Discovery+ closed in Germany, Austria and Italy, where HBO Max absorbed the content. Yet Warner Bros. Discovery has repeatedly confirmed Discovery+ stays on as a profitable service under the new Discovery Global company. Where it keeps running, you can still reach it on the road through NordVPN.
Yes, Discovery+ lets you download episodes to a phone or tablet and watch them without a connection, handy on a flight. Downloaded Discovery+ titles have a limited validity window and stay tied to your subscription. Grab them at home on your domestic network before you set off. If you need to download once abroad, connect through NordVPN first so the app sees your home region.
