Using a VPN to watch football abroad is legal in the EU. EU residents keep paid sports apps across the EU without a VPN under Regulation 2017/1128; UK and US services such as Sky Go, NOW and Peacock need a VPN with a home server.
Premier League in the UK in 2026/27: Sky Sports at least 215 live games, TNT Sports 52, BBC highlights of all 380 for free.
In the US, the Premier League is on NBC, Peacock and USA Network, and Paramount+ streams every Champions League match.
Pick the server in the country of your subscription, not the country of the league.
Using a VPN to watch football abroad comes down to one thing: your sports app checks where you are, not what you pay for. A UK Sky customer gets no Sky Go stream on a beach in Spain, and Peacock is geoblocked outside the US. A VPN with a server back home clears both geoblocks, so the Premier League, the Champions League and your national team stay on the plan you already have. Here is who shows football (soccer, for US readers) in 2026/27 and how to set it up on a phone, a laptop or a hotel TV.
NordVPN has native apps for Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV and covers up to 10 devices at once, enough for a phone, a laptop and the TV in your rental.
Yes. Using a VPN is legal in the EU. You keep paying for your own subscription: inside the EU, Regulation (EU) 2017/1128 guarantees your home lineup if you live in an EU country, and where it does not apply, a VPN gives you back your home location. We do not recommend pirate streams.

Does Sky Go work abroad? Not even in the EU
No. Sky Go and the Sky Sports app are geoblocked outside the UK, and that includes the EU. NOW is the same: since December 29, 2020, a UK membership no longer streams in any EU country. TNT Sports, inside HBO Max in the UK, is labeled UK only. A UK server brings the apps back, as our guide to Sky Go abroad explains device by device.
The EU portability rule covers EU residents only
Regulation (EU) 2017/1128 has applied since April 1, 2018. Article 3(1) obliges a paid online service to give a subscriber who is temporarily present in another member state the same content, on the same devices, as in the country of residence. Article 5 has the provider check that country with no more than two means, such as an ID card or the card you pay with. An Irish resident with Ligue 1+ keeps it on a trip to Spain. A UK subscription sits outside the rule, so Sky and NOW stay geoblocked outside the UK.
Living in the EU and traveling in the EU: sign in, no VPN needed.
UK or US service, or any trip outside the EU: VPN with a server in your home country.
Hotel or rental TV: VPN on a streaming stick or a travel router.
Peacock, Fubo and Paramount+ outside the US
Peacock streams only inside the US, Fubo only in the US and its territories, and Fubo Canada only inside Canada. Paramount+ and ESPN+ carry the Champions League and LaLiga for US fans, so connect to a US server before you open them. Our guide to Peacock from anywhere has the app setup.
Surfshark allows unlimited simultaneous connections on one account, so every device on the trip can connect at once.
How to watch football abroad with a VPN, step by step
Set it up once at home, and each match after that takes a few taps.
Keep your home subscription active and sign in on each device before you leave.
Install the VPN app on every device you plan to watch on.
Connect to a server in the country where your subscription is registered.
Open the sports app and start the match.
A short checklist before you fly:
Sign in to every sports app while you are still at home.
Check that the payment card on your account is valid for the whole trip.
Install the VPN on your phone, laptop and streaming stick.
Try a live stream through the VPN the day before you travel.
Which VPN server should you pick?
Always the country of your subscription, not the country of the league. LaLiga on ESPN+ needs a US server, not a Spanish one. Use a UK server for Sky Sports, NOW, TNT Sports and ITVX, a US server for Peacock, Paramount+, ESPN+ and Fubo, a Canadian one for DAZN Canada and an Australian one for Stan Sport.
Watching football on a hotel or rental TV
Casting from your phone does not carry the VPN with it. With Google Cast, the Chromecast or TV fetches the stream from the service itself and the phone only acts as the remote, so the service sees the hotel connection.
Two setups work better. The first is a streaming stick with its own VPN app: NordVPN and ExpressVPN both have native apps for Amazon Fire TV, as our guide to the VPN on a Fire TV Stick shows. The second is a travel router running the VPN, with your stick or laptop on its Wi-Fi; our VPN on a router guide covers it. A Windows laptop can also share its VPN connection through the built-in mobile hotspot. For TV apps, see VPN on a smart TV.
ExpressVPN counts a router as only one active connection, and its MediaStreamer Smart DNS covers TVs that cannot run a VPN app.
In the UK, TNT Sports holds the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League through HBO Max, and Prime Video shows the top match every Tuesday night. HBO Max streams in other HBO Max countries, but the lineup follows your physical location, so pick a UK server; see TNT Sports from anywhere.
In the US, Paramount+ streams every match live all season (Paramount+ from anywhere). Canada has DAZN, Australia Stan Sport, and in Ireland Premier Sports holds the UEFA club rights through 2026/27. Channels for each round are in our Champions League matchday 3 guide.
How to watch the Premier League, LaLiga and Serie A abroad
In the UK, Sky Sports has at least 215 live Premier League games under a deal to May 2029, including all first picks and every Sunday fixture. TNT Sports has 52, among them the Saturday 12:30 p.m. kick-offs (UK time). Sky also carries over 1,000 live EFL games and up to 60 from the Scottish Premiership; our guide to Sky Sports from anywhere keeps all of it on a trip. Premier Sports shows over 340 LaLiga matches a season, Disney+ the late Saturday game, and DAZN all 380 of Serie A.
In the US, the Premier League runs across NBC, Peacock and USA Network through 2027/28. ESPN+ has all 380 LaLiga matches in English and Spanish (ESPN+ from anywhere). The Bundesliga left ESPN: USA Network airs over 30 games and the rest stream free on Fandango. Every MLS match is included in an Apple TV subscription.
Which VPN works best for live sports?
Count devices first: a phone, a laptop and a TV stick, often for two people. NordVPN allows 10 at once, Surfshark has no limit, ExpressVPN allows 10 to 14 depending on the plan.
Then check the TV. NordVPN and ExpressVPN have native apps for Android TV, Fire TV and Apple TV, and Surfshark lists Fire TV and Apple TV (tvOS 17 or later). Our ranking of the best VPN for streaming compares them on current data, and the reviews of NordVPN, Surfshark and ExpressVPN go deeper.
Proton VPN lists apps for Apple TV, Android TV and Fire TV Stick and connects up to 10 devices on its Plus plan.
ITV shows every England men’s match outside major tournament finals, free to air, through June 2028, including all Nations League games and friendlies on ITV1 and ITVX. The next matchdays run November 12 to 14 and 15 to 17, 2026. Quarterfinals and play-offs follow from March 25 to 30, 2027. The Euro 2028 qualifying draw is on December 6, 2026, in Belfast, and the group stage runs from March to November 2027. If ITVX will not play on your trip, connect to a UK server and sign in again.
Stream not working? What to do
Check the server country. It must match your subscription: UK for Sky and TNT Sports, US for Peacock and Paramount+.
Switch to another server in the same country, then restart the app or the stick.
Close the app fully, clear its cache or open the site in a private window, then sign in again.
Check the payment details on your account. Services may check your home country against the card you pay with.
On a TV, run the VPN on the stick or a router instead of casting from your phone.
Follow your club from anywhere
Your subscription already covers the season. A VPN with a server back home makes sure the kick-off on the road is the one you would see on your sofa.

Quick recap: if you live in the EU and travel inside it, just sign in. Sky Go, NOW, TNT Sports and Peacock need a UK or US server whenever you are abroad. On a hotel TV, the VPN belongs on the stick or a router, not on the phone you cast from. And if you split the year between two countries, keep each subscription registered where you actually live. Yes. Using a VPN is legal in the EU, and you keep watching through your own subscription, so the broadcaster still gets paid. The VPN only gives you back your home location, which UK and US services such as Sky Go and Peacock need before they stream.
Sky Go is geoblocked outside the UK, and that includes the EU. Connect to a UK server and the app sees a UK location again. You still sign in with your own Sky account.
Yes, with a VPN. Peacock is geoblocked outside the US, so on a trip you connect to a US server before you open the app. The Premier League games on Peacock then play on your normal plan.
Use the service from your home country with a server there: TNT Sports and Prime Video for UK fans, Paramount+ for US fans, DAZN in Canada and Stan Sport in Australia. The server must be in the country of your subscription, not where the match is played.
UK fans need Sky Sports or TNT Sports with a UK server, US fans Peacock, NBC or USA Network with a US server. Sign in at home before you leave and test a live stream the day before your trip.
No. A VPN does not make a paid service free, so you still need Sky Sports, TNT Sports or Peacock. What is free stays free at home: BBC highlights of all 380 games and every England match on ITV, plus the Bundesliga games that stream on Fandango in the US.
The country where your subscription is registered. That is the UK for Sky Sports, TNT Sports and ITVX, the US for Peacock, Paramount+ and ESPN+, Canada for DAZN Canada and Australia for Stan Sport.
