How to Watch NRL from Anywhere: Expat Guide 2026
Every round of the Telstra Premiership, the full Ampol State of Origin series and the women’s NRLW sit inside one app, and that app opens only outside Australia. Watch NRL is the league’s official service for viewers abroad, run jointly by the NRL, FOX SPORTS Australia and its subsidiary FOX SPORTS StreamCo. The geo rule runs backwards compared with most services on this site: Australian, New Zealand and Pacific addresses are the blocked ones, while Europe and North America stream normally.
There are no commercial breaks during play, matches download for offline viewing, and a spoiler-free mode hides scores until you press play. Billing runs in Australian dollars across three lengths, a week, a month or a year, with no free tier and no trial period. Watch NRL has been live since 2018, and its parent Foxtel Group changed hands in 2025 when DAZN bought the business. Below you will find pricing, the 24 markets we track, supported devices and the two moments where Surfshark actually earns its keep.

Company and history
- On 23 October 2017 the NRL signed a landmark international rights agreement with Fox Sports Australia, handing the broadcaster the job of taking the Telstra Premiership to fans living outside Australia.
- Watch NRL went live in February 2018, timed for round one of the season. Early sign-ups received a two-week free trial, and the Fox League channel came bundled in from the start.
- DAZN completed its purchase of Foxtel Group on 2 April 2025 in a deal worth A$3.4 billion. Fox Sports Australia, and with it the overseas NRL service, moved under the London-based streamer.
- In May 2025 the NRL confirmed the Perth Bears as its eighteenth club from the 2027 season, after the Western Australian government committed A$65.6 million to the project.
- The 2025 grand final on 5 October drew 4.46 million Australians as Brisbane beat Melbourne 26-22, making it the most watched decider in the country’s sporting history.
- The 2026 season opened at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on 28 February. A triple-header shared with Super League pulled 2.1 million viewers, seven percent up on the previous year.

Tips & tricks you should know
5 tips from our Watch NRL testing team · Updated August 3, 2026
- Kick-offs run on Australian time, so switch on spoiler-free mode and wait for the ad-break-free full replay, which lands roughly four to eight hours after full time.
- Your subscription also covers the NRLW premiership, both State of Origin series, the round-the-clock Fox League channel and on-demand matches from the past three seasons.
- For one Origin week the weekly pass is enough; over a full season the annual plan costs less than half of twelve monthly payments.
- Apple TV (4th generation or newer), Chromecast and AirPlay all work, but only two registered devices can stream at once, so a shared family login runs out fast.
- Playback works only outside Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands, so if you land in Sydney, connect Surfshark to a European server first.
