How to Watch Sky Racing from Anywhere: VPN Guide 2026
Sky Racing started life as a satellite feed for betting shops and that origin still shapes it. On air since 1986 and owned by Tabcorp, it is built around racing: thoroughbred, harness and greyhound meetings from New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania, topped up with international cards. Access to Sky Racing is tied to Australian territory, so the player compares your IP address against the licence area and turns a foreign connection away before the first race can even load.
There are two doors in. Either you hold a betting account with TAB and the stream comes attached to it, or you subscribe to Media Centre, which is sold by the day as well as by the month. Both assume you are sitting in Australia. An Australian server on NordVPN puts the connection back where the account belongs, and the picture runs up to 1080p. Below are four steps, the cost of both routes and the limits worth knowing first.

How to Unblock Sky Racing with a VPN
Takes about 2 minutes. Works on your phone, tablet, TV, PC, or laptop.
- Pick a VPN with a steady Australian routeTake NordVPN, with plans from $2.99 a month. For racing, latency and stability decide it, because a race lasts a couple of minutes and a stalled feed cannot be replayed live.Connect ahead of time, not a minute before the jump.
- Connect to an Australian serverChoose Australia in the app, ideally Sydney or Melbourne, where most of the submarine cable capacity comes ashore and latency stays lowest. Confirm your Australian address before you sign in.
- Sign in with TAB or Media CentreSky Racing opens either through a TAB betting account or through a Media Centre subscription. The second route suits anyone who does not want to bet and only cares about the broadcasts and the archive.
- Start the streamQuality follows the source and tops out at 1080p. If playback stutters, switch to another Australian node and pause background downloads. Replays and historical meetings depend on which route you took.State coverage shifts with whichever rights deal is current.

Who’s behind the service?
What is Sky Racing
Australian specialist racing network owned by Tabcorp, on air since 1986. The Sky Racing 1, Sky Racing 2 and Sky Thoroughbred Central channels cover thoroughbred, harness and greyhound meetings from New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania, plus international cards. Access comes through a TAB betting account or a Media Centre media subscription. Race replays and a historical archive are included.

Company and history
- Transmission began on 20 October 1986 under the Sky Channel brand, shortly after Australia launched its first domestic satellite. The feed went exclusively to betting shops rather than homes.
- In September 1998 the channel entered the home subscription market through Foxtel, Optus Vision and Austar. The same year the newly privatised Tab Limited bought it for 260 million dollars.
- In October 2009 the channel took on a new look and changed its name from Sky Channel to Sky Racing. The rebrand openly acknowledged that racing and betting coverage were the core of the schedule.
- On 30 March 2010 a second channel, Sky Racing 2, joined the line-up. Splitting the schedule across two feeds allowed simultaneous meetings that had never fitted into a single channel.
- On 21 March 2015 Sky Racing World was replaced by Sky Thoroughbred Central, focused on flat racing. The trio of channels has stayed in that configuration ever since.
- In November 2023 Britain's Racecourse Media Group renewed its distribution deal for Australia and New Zealand. That kept a regular helping of British and Irish meetings on the schedule.
- On 19 February 2026 Racing Victoria and Tabcorp signed a long-term media rights deal. It returned the channel to the role of exclusive international distributor of Victorian racing, a position lost back in 2023.

Tips & tricks you should know
5 tips from our Sky Racing testing team · Updated August 3, 2026
- You do not have to bet. The Media Centre subscription is purely a media product and is sold by the day as well, which suits the big carnival meetings.
- The location check runs on every request, so connect to an Australian server on NordVPN before you sign in rather than at the player.
- The three channels have clear roles: Sky Racing 1 carries the main schedule, the second feed runs parallel meetings and Thoroughbred Central covers flat racing.
- State coverage is not fixed forever. Rights are negotiated separately and some Victorian racing has been missing from the digital offer in the past, so check before you pay.
- For racing, latency beats download speed. Connect early, because a race lasts a matter of minutes and a stalled feed cannot be replayed live.
