How to Watch France 24 from Anywhere: VPN Guide 2026
France 24 is the French public news channel run by France Médias Monde, broadcasting rolling coverage 24 hours a day. Watching is completely free and needs no signup: just head to france24.com, the mobile app, or YouTube, and the live feed starts in any of four languages, French, English, Spanish, and Arabic. The channel reaches 191 countries, so most of the time you need no trick at all. The trouble starts when you travel to places where state censorship blocks French news outright.
A VPN does not buy you a plan here. It only changes your virtual location, which helps in three cases. First, when the channel is censored: Russia has blocked it since 2022, Iran restricts foreign outlets, China’s Great Firewall filters it, and military juntas in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have suspended it. Second, when your region loads the English edition and you want French. Third, when you simply want your home stream on holiday. Pick a French server and access returns in seconds.

Who’s behind the service?
What is France 24
France 24 is the international news channel of France Médias Monde, the French state-owned broadcaster. On air since December 2006, it runs non-stop bulletins in four languages (French, English, Spanish and Arabic), supplemented by analytical magazines, debates and long-form reporting that tends to focus more heavily on Africa, the Middle East and Europe than most Anglo-American competitors. Streaming is free and available globally through the website and mobile apps.

Company and history
- France 24 went on air on 6 December 2006 in French and English, a state-funded international news channel created to offer the world a French perspective on current affairs and rival the BBC and CNN.
- In April 2007 an Arabic edition was added, broadcasting only a few hours a day at first. The move extended the channel’s reach across the Middle East and North Africa, where it gradually became an influential news voice.
- In October 2010 the Arabic feed switched to a full 24-hour schedule. The upgrade cemented France 24’s standing across the Arabic-speaking world and put it alongside the major regional news networks.
- In 2013 the parent holding, created in 2008 as Audiovisuel Extérieur de la France, was renamed France Médias Monde, uniting France 24 with the radio stations RFI and Monte Carlo Doualiya under one brand of French international broadcasting.
- In September 2017 France 24 launched a fourth language edition in Spanish, broadcast at first from Bogotá and aimed at Latin American audiences. It opened up a major new market across the Americas.
- From September 2021 the Spanish edition broadcasts a full 24-hour schedule from its Bogotá newsroom. France 24 thereby completed its evolution into a four-language channel running around the clock everywhere.
- In January 2025 France 24 unveiled the first major redesign of its website and mobile app in seven years. The new interface added a Breaking news mode and easier access to live TV, replays and articles.
- In May 2026 France 24 launched its English edition on the UK’s free Freely platform, extending its reach beyond Freeview’s broadcast lineup straight into the connected-TV environment.
