How to Watch Airtel Xstream Play outside India: VPN Guide 2026
Back in February 2022, Airtel bundled a stack of Indian video apps into one subscription called Airtel Xstream Premium and kept it for its own customers. Airtel Xstream Play isn’t available in the US, and the terms published by Xtelify, the Bharti Airtel subsidiary that runs the service, leave no room for doubt: “You may use the Application and the Service only in India.” The premium packs are narrower still, sold only to Airtel customers in India.
One app now carries shows and movies from SonyLIV, Sun NXT, aha, ShemarooMe and a long list of others. Premium costs ₹149 a month or ₹1,499 a year, while the 25+ OTT Pack, which adds Netflix Basic, JioHotstar Super and ZEE5 Premium, runs ₹279 a month. A VPN server in India gives your device an Indian IP address, but it can’t stand in for an active Airtel prepaid, postpaid, DTH satellite TV or broadband connection. Without one, nothing premium plays, VPN or not. You still pay for the subscription yourself.

Quick answer
Does Airtel Xstream Play work outside India?
No. Xtelify’s terms limit the app and the service to India, and the premium packs are reserved for Airtel customers there. If you already have an active Airtel prepaid, postpaid, DTH satellite TV or broadband connection, connect Surfshark to a server in India so your device gets an Indian IP address. If you don’t, a VPN won’t help: people without Airtel can register and browse, but they can’t stream. Either way, you pay for the subscription yourself.

How-to
How to Unblock Airtel Xstream Play with a VPN
Takes about 2 minutes. Works on your phone, tablet, TV, PC, or laptop.
- Choose a VPN with servers in IndiaThe service is limited to India, so your VPN needs locations there. Our current top pick is Surfshark, from $1.78 a month.Check the server list before you pay. Not every provider covers India.
- Connect to an Indian serverSelect India in the VPN app and wait for it to connect, then open the streaming app. The VPN only changes your virtual location. Your Airtel plan and your bill stay exactly as they were.
- Sign in with your Airtel numberIn the app or at airtelxstream.in, enter your Airtel mobile number and confirm with the one-time code (OTP) sent to that number.Airtel DTH and broadband customers sign in with the mobile number registered to their account. Airtel’s help pages add that the SIM for that number should be in the device you watch on.
- Make sure your pack is activePremium or the 25+ OTT Pack has to be active on your number. You can buy either in the app, on the website, on the Airtel Xstream Box or in the Airtel app (Airtel Thanks), where the only payment option is adding it to your Airtel bill.

Steer clear of free VPNs. Most of them actually collect and sell your data, lack proper security audits, and can even expose you to malware. They’re also useless for streaming. Platforms block them instantly, leaving you with more headaches than solutions. Stick to paid VPNs with verified audits, like Surfshark, if you want something that actually works.

What is Airtel Xstream Play
Airtel Xstream Play is an aggregator that packages content from a range of Indian streaming apps into a single app and subscription. It’s only for Airtel customers with an active SIM, DTH satellite TV, or broadband connection. The operator is Xtelify Limited, a Bharti Airtel subsidiary based in Gurugram. The Airtel Xstream Premium subscription launched in 2022, and the app, formerly Airtel TV and Airtel Xstream, took its current name in 2023. The Airtel Xstream Play Premium pack covers SonyLIV, Lionsgate Play, Sun NXT, aha, ShemarooMe, Chaupal, and more, while the 25+ OTT Pack adds Netflix, JioHotstar, and ZEE5. Free content includes movies and shows, plus live channels through Distro TV. You can watch on Android, iPhone, iPad, the web, Android TV, Apple TV, and the Airtel Xstream Box. The service works only in India.

Insider Tips
Tips & tricks you should know
5 tips from our Airtel Xstream Play testing team · Updated September 16, 2026
- A yearly Xstream Play Premium plan costs ₹1,499 versus 12 monthly payments of ₹149, but check Airtel's recharge options first: the ₹200 add-on pack, for one, already includes Premium for 28 days.
- At ₹279 a month, the 25+ OTT Pack adds Netflix Basic, JioHotstar Super and ZEE5 Premium to Xstream Play Premium, but Netflix and JioHotstar play in their own apps once activated.
- Premium bought on its own usually comes without a free trial, but as an Airtel customer in India you can try the app with free movies and shows, plus 200+ live channels via Distro TV.
- Xstream Play Premium streams on up to two screens at once, and you can cancel anytime in the app and keep access until your paid period ends.
- Airtel Xstream Play only works in India, so when you're abroad, connect Surfshark to a server in India. Without an active Airtel SIM, DTH or broadband connection, though, nothing will stream.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before subscribing to Airtel Xstream Play.
No. Premium is designed for Airtel users only, and streaming premium content requires an active Airtel prepaid, postpaid, DTH or broadband connection. Someone without Airtel can create an account and browse the catalog, but playback stays locked. A VPN such as Surfshark changes your virtual location, not your customer status, so it can’t replace that connection. If you aren’t already an Airtel customer, you can’t sign up from the US.
Prices are set in rupees for Airtel customers in India. Premium costs ₹149 a month or ₹1,499 a year. The 25+ OTT Pack runs ₹279 a month and bundles Netflix Basic, JioHotstar Super and ZEE5 Premium together with Premium itself. The website may also show a lower promotional price. None of this is tied to what you already pay at home for a service like Hulu.
Airtel’s Premium page currently lists apps such as SonyLIV, Lionsgate Play, Sun NXT, aha, ShemarooMe and Chaupal. The exact count varies by source and by pack, so think of it as a long list rather than a fixed number. On top of that, Airtel customers get free movies and shows, plus more than 200 live channels through Distro TV, no premium pack required.
No. The terms state that the Premium Pack doesn’t entitle you to watch content in the partners’ own apps. Premium plays in the Airtel Xstream Play app, on airtelxstream.in and on the Airtel Xstream Box. The 25+ OTT Pack works differently: once activated, Netflix and JioHotstar play in their own apps, while ZEE5 titles start in Airtel’s streaming app and then open in the installed ZEE5 app. Netflix Basic is limited to one device.
ATV426 is the code the airtelxstream.in web app uses for content that’s only available in India. The full message reads: “This content is available only in India. Please try turning off any proxy/unblocker/VPN services if you are in India.” That matches the terms, which limit the app and the service to India. Premium titles also always need an active Airtel connection on your number.
The iPhone and iPad app is listed in India’s App Store, not the US one. Like the service itself, it’s aimed at India: the terms allow you to use the app and the service only there. Besides the apps, there’s the airtelxstream.in website. Don’t confuse the streaming app with the Airtel app (Airtel Thanks), which is one of the places to buy a pack.
Airtel lists Android phones, iPhone and iPad, the website, Android TV, Apple TV and its own Airtel Xstream Box. According to the terms, Roku TV and Linux-based systems aren’t supported. A Premium subscription covers up to two screens at the same time. To watch on a TV, run the VPN on the TV or streaming box itself, or on your router.
Airtel’s help pages say yes: the SIM for the registered number should be in the device, and if you’re on mobile data, it has to be Airtel mobile data. The operator doesn’t say how those rules apply when you’re roaming or on hotel Wi-Fi. For a definitive answer on your own line, Airtel customer care is the place to ask.
Start with the basics: check that Premium is active on your number and that the SIM for that number is in the device. Then try a different server in India. If Surfshark or whichever VPN you use offers obfuscated servers, they’re worth a try, though there’s no guarantee they’ll work. Treat the VPN results on this page as a rough guide.
Yes. You can cancel Premium anytime in the Airtel Xstream Play app, and you keep access until the end of your current subscription period. There’s usually no free trial if you buy Premium on its own, so it pays to decide up front whether Premium covers what you watch or whether the pricier 25+ OTT Pack makes more sense.
