How to watch Europa League for free
Short answer for the US, UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia: we found no confirmed free live broadcast of a Matchday 2 game as of October 8, 2026. Every option above needs a subscription.
Free coverage exists elsewhere in Europe, mostly for local clubs. In Belgium, RTBF shows Belgian clubs’ Europa League games live or as a replay on Auvio. This round that means Union SG vs Real Sociedad or Dinamo Zagreb vs Anderlecht, and which one airs live wasn’t announced as of October 8. In Germany, free channel NITRO lists Hoffenheim vs Beşiktaş at 10:45 p.m. local time, after the 9 p.m. kickoff, so don’t count on a live broadcast. In Switzerland, SRF zwei airs free Europa League highlights at 11 p.m.
Those channels serve viewers at home, and paid services work the same way. Cross a border and the match you pay for may stop playing. That’s where a VPN helps.
How to watch Europa League from abroad with a VPN
Streaming services read your IP address before they play anything. Open Paramount+ on a work trip to Spain, or HBO Max from a hotel in Portugal, and you may get an error instead of Celtic in Lisbon, even though you pay every month.
A VPN from our table gets you back in. Connect to a server in your home country, open your usual app and sign in. The service sees a home connection and plays the game. Your subscription stays as it is; the VPN only changes your virtual location.

Crystal Palace, Sunderland, Bournemouth and Celtic: form and opponents
All three English clubs won on Matchday 1. Celtic lost at home and needs a result in Portugal.
Lyon vs Crystal Palace
Palace made the loudest start of any British side, a 4 to 0 win over Lech Poznań at Selhurst Park. Yeremy Pino, Chris Richards, Jørgen Strand Larsen from the penalty spot and Eddie Nketiah scored. That put Pierre Sage’s team second in the table, behind only Juventus. Lyon, coached by Paulo Fonseca, also won its opener, 2 to 1 at Anderlecht. The clubs have never met in the Champions League or Europa League.
Torreense vs Sunderland
Sunderland beat AZ Alkmaar 1 to 0 at the Stadium of Light, with Enzo Le Fée scoring a penalty in the 66th minute in front of 45,555 fans. Régis Le Bris’s side sits joint 15th. Portuguese club Torreense won 2 to 1 at Lillestrøm and is also on 3 points. The game is played at the Estádio Municipal de Leiria.
Benfica vs Celtic
Martin O’Neill’s Celtic lost 3 to 1 at home to Ferencváros and sits 28th, outside the playoff places for now. Benfica, under Marco Silva, won 2 to 0 at San Siro against AC Milan, with Dodi Lukébakio and Jakub Kamiński on target. The clubs have met eight times in the European Cup and Champions League: Benfica has four wins, Celtic three, plus one draw. The last meeting, in November 2012, ended in a 2 to 1 Benfica win in Lisbon.
Bournemouth vs Sturm Graz
Marco Rose’s Bournemouth won 2 to 1 at Real Sociedad, with Justin Kluivert and Rayan scoring in the first 20 minutes. It sits joint 10th, level with Lyon and Torreense. Sturm Graz, coached by Fabio Ingolitsch, opened with a goalless draw against Rennes.
Who are the favorites? Our Matchday 2 picks
The facts first. Juventus tops the table after a 5 to 0 win over NEC Nijmegen. Benfica won at San Siro, while Palace, Sparta Prague and Beşiktaş all scored four. Beşiktaş beat Marseille 4 to 1, and Václav Černý was among the scorers.
Our picks are editorial opinions, not betting tips. Palace’s attack should trouble Lyon, but a draw in Décines wouldn’t surprise us. Benfica is our favorite at home against Celtic. Sunderland can take points in Leiria. Juventus looks like the safest pick of the night in Vigo, though Celta beat Juve 4 to 0 in their last European meeting, in March 2000.
Our pick for Paramount+ExpressVPNGreat for streaming
All 36 teams share one table, and each plays eight games, 144 in total, until January 28, 2027. Teams in places 1 to 8 go straight to the round of 16, places 9 to 24 enter the knockout playoffs on February 18 and 25, and places 25 to 36 are out. The final is on Wednesday, May 26, 2027.
Aston Villa is the defending champion after beating Freiburg 3 to 0 in Istanbul on May 20, 2026, but Villa isn’t in this season’s Europa League. Don’t mix it up with the Conference League, a separate UEFA competition that also plays on Thursday nights.
Europa League stream not working? What to do
Check the server country. Geoblocking is the usual cause, so connect to a server in the country of your service: the US for Paramount+, the UK for TNT Sports.
Switch servers. Still blocked? Pick another server in the same country and reload the page.
Clear the cache. Your browser or app may remember your real location. Clear cookies, open a private window or restart the app.
Check your account. A VPN doesn’t replace a paid plan. Paramount+, TNT Sports, Premier Sports, DAZN and Stan Sport still need your own active subscription.
Test before kickoff. Try your setup on Wednesday, not five minutes before the 12:45 p.m. ET start on Thursday.
