How to Watch Sky Deutschland outside Germany: VPN Guide 2026
If you are a German or Austrian football fan living elsewhere, reaching the Saturday Bundesliga is harder than it should be. Sky Deutschland sells only in Germany and Austria, so the WOW streaming app and the premium Sky Q tier simply refuse to open once your connection points to another country. Note that Sky Switzerland is a separate operation, so a viewer in Switzerland is not covered here either. The licences for the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, Premier League, Formula 1 and the HBO catalogue are tied to those 2 countries and nowhere else.
The fix is to give your device a German IP address. Connect Surfshark to a server in Germany, then open WOW or Sky Q and log in as usual. Roughly 5,000 titles plus live sport then play in up to 4K. Since 1 June 2026 the service belongs to Comcast (Sky Group), which acquired it from Comcast, but the day-to-day routine has not changed. You pay for your own subscription; the VPN only moves your location, it never makes the plan free.

Quick answer
Can you get Sky Deutschland outside Germany?
Not by signing up directly: Sky Deutschland only sells in Germany and Austria, so once you live elsewhere the app blocks the stream. The workaround is a German IP. Launch Surfshark, connect to a server in Germany, then open the WOW streaming app or Sky Q and sign in. The Bundesliga, Premier League and Formula 1 load in 4K. You still pay Sky yourself; the VPN only changes your location.

⚠️
Steer clear of free VPNs. Most of them actually collect and sell your data, lack proper security audits, and can even expose you to malware. They’re also useless for streaming. Platforms block them instantly, leaving you with more headaches than solutions. Stick to paid VPNs with verified audits, like Surfshark, if you want something that actually works.
Sky Deutschland was created in 2009 through the rebrand of Premiere and, after years under Comcast, is in 2026 moving to Bertelsmann’s RTL Group following regulatory clearance of the deal. The offering splits into the traditional satellite and cable packages sold under Sky Q and a streaming-only alternative called WOW, billed month-to-month with no long-term commitment. The headline draws are the exclusive Bundesliga and the complete Formula 1 — though since HBO Max launched, only select former HBO shows remain on Sky rather than the full catalogue. WOW streaming is available in Germany and Austria, while the satellite and cable Sky Q packages also reach Switzerland.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before you start watching Sky Deutschland.
Usually not. The WOW streaming app and Sky Q both run strict location checks, and a smart DNS that leaves your traffic unencrypted rarely holds up. A Surfshark connection to a German server is far more dependable: it hands you a home IP and clears the geo-block cleanly. If one server gets flagged, switch to another in Germany and wipe your browser cookies before trying again.
Only two: Germany and Austria. That is the full footprint, which is why 2 countries appear in our coverage. Switzerland runs under a separate Sky company and is not part of this offer, so a Swiss viewer is treated the same as anyone else outside the footprint. Everywhere else you need a German IP from Surfshark to open WOW or Sky Q and sign in to the account you already pay for.
They share the same core lineup: the Bundesliga, Formula 1 and the English Premier League. Sky Q is the premium satellite and cable tier with more parallel streams, while the WOW streaming app is the flexible, cancel-anytime option. For an expat reaching the service through Surfshark, the WOW app is the handier choice because it installs straight onto a phone, laptop or TV stick.
Using Surfshark is legal in itself. You are, however, going against Sky terms, which tie the account to its home region, so you risk a warning or a temporary block. The honest approach is to pay for your own subscription and treat the VPN purely as a bridge to content you are entitled to, never as a way to borrow someone else login or dodge the fee.
Yes. Sky holds the main Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga rights through the 2028/29 season, so its football backbone is locked in. From your current country you reach the matches by connecting Surfshark to a server in Germany and opening WOW or Sky Q. The picture climbs to 4K on a fast line, which matters most for live kick-offs.
Yes, provided you have a quick connection and a strong VPN with servers close to Germany. Heavy compression or a distant node can knock the quality down, so pick a low-ping location in Germany and, ideally, a wired link. For live sport, keep an eye on the bitrate so the feed does not stutter during the decisive moments of a match.
Comcast (Sky Group) completed the purchase on 1 June 2026 after the European Commission cleared it, and a tie-up with the RTL+ platform is expected. Viewers should see the catalogue grow, but the WOW app and Sky Q keep running as before for now. From your country the routine is unchanged: Surfshark, a server in Germany, and a normal sign-in to the account you pay for.
Alongside the Bundesliga and Premier League, Sky carries Formula 1, the DFB-Pokal, plus tennis, golf, handball and US leagues. From your current location you reach all of it by routing Surfshark through a German server and signing in to WOW or Sky Q. For live events, pick a low-ping node in Germany so the picture does not drift behind the action.
