ShemarooMe is a subscription streaming service from Shemaroo Entertainment, a Mumbai company that started out in 1962 as a book rental business before moving into VHS distribution and film rights. The service launched in 2019 and, since 2021, has focused mainly on Gujarati audiences, with films, web series, and stage plays in their language. Bollywood classics such as Jab We Met and Bhagam Bhag, Marathi and Punjabi titles, spiritual content, and live broadcasts from temples round out the catalog. The Premium plan is ad-free, allows streaming on up to four screens at once, and includes downloads for offline viewing. Without a subscription, only selected free titles with ads are available. Each account is tied to the country where it was registered.

ShemarooMe sells subscriptions in many countries, including the US, and Premium is $34.99 a year on a US account. The plans page lists no ads and up to four screens at once, and the apps support downloads for offline viewing, though the website doesn’t. Without a plan, you can still play selected free titles with ads. You can cancel anytime, and access continues until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
There are apps for Android, iPhone and iPad, plus the website at shemaroome.com. For the living room, the FAQ lists a dedicated Apple TV app, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast. The Apple TV app needs tvOS 14 or later, according to the App Store. You can cast to Chromecast, but screen mirroring isn’t supported. In the US there are also Samsung and LG smart TV apps, plus a Roku app. Android TV, Mi TV and Cloudwalker apps are listed for India only.
Section 20 of the terms says you are not allowed to use any technology to obscure or disguise your location, so using a VPN is at your own risk. If you go ahead anyway, ExpressVPN on a US server sets your virtual location to the country your account belongs to. It doesn’t touch billing: the subscription is still yours to pay.
Gujarati content is the core: films, original web series and nataks (Gujarati stage plays). Around that sit Bollywood classics from the Evergreen Bollywood section, such as Jab We Met (2007) and Bhagam Bhag (2006), Bollywood Premiere films debuting digitally, comedy, kids’ shows, devotional programming, and Live Darshan temple streams. Titles come in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and Punjabi. August 2026 added Laalo Krishna Sada Sahaayate and new episodes of Kem Cho Kitchen Season 8.
No. ShemarooMe is a subscription service much like Hulu, just built around Indian titles. Shemaroo’s YouTube channels, such as Shemaroo Filmi Gaane, aren’t part of the subscription. JioTV offers only what the operator calls a small, curated set of its content, and your subscription doesn’t carry over. Linear channels like Shemaroo TV and Shemaroo Umang show up inside the Live TV section.
It can. Section 20 of the terms says the content offered may vary from time to time and according to your location. Separately, the FAQ says each account is linked to the country where it was registered. So a ShemarooMe account opened in the US stays linked to the US wherever you travel.
The FAQ is blunt about it: if you relocate internationally, you won’t be able to access content from your account in the new country. You’d need to create a new ShemarooMe account there and pay for a new subscription. The same rule covers accounts opened in India, which need an Indian location, not an American one.
