How to Watch Molotov TV outside France: VPN Guide 2026
Molotov launched on the French market in 2016 as a clever aggregator that pulls dozens of terrestrial channels into one app, and since 2021 it has belonged to the US group FuboTV Inc.. That French DNA is the reason it is locked to its home country: from anywhere else, Molotov TV is simply not available outside France, and the app blocks you the moment it reads a foreign IP address. No TF1, no France 2, no M6, no BFM TV or Arte, and none of the Ligue 1 matches it has carried since the 2025/2026 season.
If you live in your country and want this French service, whether you are an expat, learning the language, or just a fan of French television, the workaround is straightforward. Connect through Surfshark to a server in France, and the app reads a local IP and opens the full lineup as if you were sitting in Paris. It runs on phones, laptops, and smart TVs alike, picture quality holds up to 4K, and the free tier stays free. This guide walks you through the setup so it works the first time.

Quick answer
Can I watch Molotov TV outside France?
Not directly: the service is offered in France only, so from your country the app turns you away because its channel rights stop at the French border. Connect through Surfshark to a server in France, reload the app, and the geo-block lifts. The free tier of 40+ terrestrial channels stays free, and any paid plan you sign up for behaves exactly as it would in Paris, including live TV and cloud recording.

How-to
How to Unblock Molotov TV with a VPN
Takes about 2 minutes. Works on your phone, tablet, TV, PC, or laptop.
1
Pick a reliable VPN
Go with Surfshark, which runs fast French servers and handles live streaming without buffering. You can grab it from $1.78 a month, with a money-back window if it falls short.
An annual plan costs far less than paying month to month.
2
Connect to a server in France
Open the app and choose France from the country list. The VPN hands you a Paris or Lyon IP that the service reads as a genuine local connection, which is what unlocks the French-only lineup.
3
Sign in or create a free account
Open the Molotov app or website and sign in, or create a free account if you do not have one yet. Keep the VPN connected to France while you register so the sign-up sees a local IP. If the app was already open, close it fully and relaunch so it picks up your new location.
The free tier needs no payment details; you only pay if you choose a paid plan yourself.
4
Start streaming
Pick a channel or a show and hit play. On a solid connection the picture runs smoothly up to 4K, and catch-up plus cloud recording work just as they do for viewers in France.

⚠️
Steer clear of free VPNs. Most of them actually collect and sell your data, lack proper security audits, and can even expose you to malware. They’re also useless for streaming. Platforms block them instantly, leaving you with more headaches than solutions. Stick to paid VPNs with verified audits, like Surfshark, if you want something that actually works.
Molotov TV is the French IPTV service that launched in 2016 and was acquired in 2021 by US operator FuboTV. It aggregates more than 80 French channels live and on catch-up (TF1, France Télévisions, M6, BFM TV and others), with cloud DVR and time-shift on the paid tiers. Three plans are offered: a free Molotov tier plus two paid options that layer on extra channels and premium film content. Registered accounts now sit above 20 million.

Company and history
Major changes
Molotov launched in France as a free app that bundled dozens of TNT channels into one interface, adding live TV, cloud recording, and a start-over feature that let you rewind to the beginning of a program.
The service rolled out paid Molotov Plus and Extended tiers, layering extra channels, multiple simultaneous screens, and larger recording storage on top of the free base, turning the app into a full subscription product.
US operator FuboTV acquired Molotov for roughly 164 million euros. The deal was Fubo's first move into the European market and gave Molotov the financial backing of a much larger streaming partner.
Disney announced its intent to take a 70 percent stake in Fubo and merge it with Hulu + Live TV. The agreement opened a path for Molotov toward deeper collaboration with Disney across international markets.
Molotov signed a non-exclusive carriage deal for Ligue 1 covering the 2025/2026 season, becoming the first streaming platform to offer France's top football league alongside regular channels inside a single ecosystem.
Fubo completed its combination with Hulu + Live TV under Disney control, forming one of the largest pay-TV providers in the US with nearly six million subscribers. Molotov remained its flagship European brand.
Molotov sharply cut its annual subscription prices, with the Extra tier dropping to around forty euros a year and Extended to sixty, the equivalent of roughly six months free compared with paying month by month.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before subscribing to Molotov TV.
A VPN is a perfectly legal tool in most countries, used every day by companies and individuals for privacy. Reaching a service offered in another country is more a question of that platform’s terms than of any law. You still pay for any plan yourself, so nobody is cheated. Surfshark also encrypts your traffic, which keeps you safe on public Wi-Fi networks while you stream Molotov TV.
Yes. The geo-block covers the whole app, free and paid alike, so even the 40+ terrestrial channels are locked outside France. Connect through Surfshark to a French server and France 2, BFM TV, and Arte open at no cost. You pay nothing to watch the free tier; the VPN is the only extra, and it runs a few euros a month, cheaper still on an annual plan.
The free tier alone bundles 40+ French terrestrial channels, including TF1, France 2, M6, BFM TV, and Arte. Paid plans such as Molotov Extra, from around ≈ $8, and Grand Cinéma add more, while an optional Ligue 1+ add-on carries French Ligue 1 matches. With a French IP from Surfshark, everything your account includes opens exactly as it would for a viewer in France.
The usual culprit is the app running in the background with your old location cached. Close it fully, connect to a French server, and only then relaunch. Clearing the cache or switching to another server in France also helps. Surfshark runs several Paris servers, so if Molotov TV flags one, a different one usually slips through without any trouble at all.
Yes. Molotov TV has carried French Ligue 1 matches since the 2025/2026 season through its Ligue 1+ add-on, and they sit behind the same geo-block as the rest of the lineup. With a French IP from Surfshark and the add-on on your account, the broadcasts open just like TF1 or France 3. Pick a server close to France so latency stays low and the stream does not stutter at a decisive moment.
Smart DNS sometimes works and is often simpler to set up on a smart TV than a full VPN. It does not encrypt your traffic or hide your IP completely, though, so it offers less privacy. For reliability and protection on public networks we recommend Surfshark, which can cover your TV and your phone under one account at the same time when you watch Molotov TV.
Yes. There are apps for Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Android TV, and Apple TV, plus iOS and Android. The geo-block applies there too, so you need the VPN running on the TV itself or on your router. If your set does not support the Surfshark app, set the VPN up on the router and every device in the home, the TV included, gets a French IP automatically.
It depends on the term. A monthly plan with Surfshark runs a few euros, but an annual or two-year deal can cut that to a half or a third. Most providers also include a thirty-day money-back guarantee, so you can test it with Molotov TV at no risk. Remember the VPN only changes your location: you still pay for any Molotov TV plan yourself.
