How to Watch AIT from Anywhere: VPN Guide 2026
The Kakaaki breakfast block opens at six on AIT and dissects Abuja politics before most of the diaspora has finished their coffee. AIT has run as a free Nigerian broadcaster since 1996, owned by DAAR Communications and headquartered in Abuja. News Hour, Focus Nigeria and Moneyline with Nancy all stream at no cost through the official AIT app and its 24/7 YouTube channel, with ads paying the bills instead of a subscription.
Land in London, Houston or Toronto, though, and the AIT live feed often greys out. AIT routes its signal to Nigeria and a handful of English-speaking markets, so it reaches 10 countries and your current location may not be one of them. Point NordVPN at a Nigerian server and AIT behaves as if you never left home, serving the full AIT schedule in 1080p with the studio debates intact.

Who’s behind the service?
What is AIT
AIT (Africa Independent Television) is a Nigerian news and general entertainment broadcaster, run since 1996 by DAAR Communications plc from its base in Abuja. It is free to watch and funded by advertising. On ait.live, the AIT apps and YouTube you get a round-the-clock live channel plus catch-up programmes such as Kakaaki, Focus Nigeria, Moneyline and News Hour. Everything airs in English and is available to viewers anywhere in the world.
Company and history
- AIT began terrestrial broadcasts as Nigeria's first privately owned satellite and free-to-air network. Founder Raymond Dokpesi broke the state monopoly on the news airwaves.
- Less than a year later the channel added satellite distribution, reaching viewers across the whole of Africa. A local station turned into a pan-African brand.
- AIT appeared on the UK Sky platform at channel 454 as a free-to-air feed, reaching the large Nigerian diaspora across Britain and Ireland.
- Nigeria's NBC regulator suspended the channel's licence indefinitely over a coverage dispute. A federal court ordered the station reopened the very next day.
- Founder Raymond Dokpesi Sr., a pioneer of private broadcasting in Nigeria, passed away. His son Raymond Dokpesi Jr. took over leadership of the DAAR group and AIT.
- DAAR chairman Raymond Dokpesi Jr. declared his bid to lead the broadcasters' union BON, pledging an industry overhaul and protection of Nigeria's information sovereignty.
- At the April AGM, Dokpesi Jr. flagged an alleged share manipulation in the CAC registry. In the BON leadership vote, however, Tony Akiotu beat him 62 to 9.
