Sky launched Sky X as the Austrian successor to Sky Ticket. The pure streaming brand dropped the dish entirely, delivering series, films and sport through a single app.
The parent group reshuffled its brands: Sky Ticket in Germany and the UK became WOW, while the Austrian market kept the Sky X name and carried on under it.
Sky added Sky Stream alongside Sky X in Austria, a set-top puck for the TV. The app-only service gained a hardware sibling sitting next to the pure software route.
RTL Group announced it would buy Sky Deutschland, the Austrian arm included, from Comcast. For Sky X it meant a new owner and an open question about the future brand.
The European Commission cleared RTL Group's purchase of Sky Deutschland without conditions. The ruling opened the path to closing the deal and the eventual integration of Sky X.
Sky Austria revealed a reshaped football deal: DAZN takes the main Champions League rights from 2027/28, while Sky locked in First Pick and the top Tuesday match through 2030/31.
RTL Group completed its acquisition of Sky Deutschland across the DACH region. The merger created a media heavyweight with about 12.3 million subscribers, with Sky X now part of RTL.
