How to Watch MLB.TV from Anywhere: VPN Guide 2026
MLB.TV is Major League Baseball’s official streaming service, carrying nearly every regular-season game live or on demand, usually with both the home and away broadcast feeds and a deep layer of live stats. The catch is location. Inside the United States your local team’s games are blacked out, and elsewhere regional broadcast deals decide which matchups you actually get, so the line-up shifts the moment you cross a border. Watching MLB.TV abroad then runs into geo-blocks and blackout screens instead of the games you came for.
A VPN puts you back in control. Connect to a server in your home region, MLB.TV reads you as a local viewer, and your usual games return in 1080p. MLB polices VPNs hard, so a throwaway free app won’t cut it; pick a reliable NordVPN with fresh IP addresses. The service reaches 187 countries, and since 2026 ESPN handles its US sales, while fans abroad still subscribe straight from MLB.

Who’s behind the service?
What is MLB.TV
MLB.TV is the official streaming service of Major League Baseball, on air since 2002 and run by MLB Advanced Media. It carries almost every regular-season game live or on-demand, typically with two audio feeds (home and away broadcast teams) and a deep overlay of real-time statistics. Inside the US, local blackout rules apply; outside the US, games are widely available. The line-up is an annual All Teams package, a cheaper single-team plan and a month-to-month option.

Company and history
- In August 2002, MLB streams its first live game online, a Yankees win over the Rangers watched by some thirty thousand fans. To do it, the league has to crack geolocation for the first time.
- A year later, MLB launches the full-season MLB.TV package. The one-off experiment becomes a paid subscription offering every out-of-market game across the season.
- In February 2015, MLB spins its streaming arm into a separate company, BAMTech, which starts renting its technology to outside firms. Baseball quietly becomes a backbone of the streaming industry.
- Having bought in a year earlier, Disney takes a majority stake in BAMTech in 2017. The same MLB-built technology goes on to power the upcoming Disney+ and ESPN+.
- In November 2022, Disney buys MLB's remaining stake in BAMTech for 900 million dollars. The league exits the tech company entirely and turns its focus back to baseball itself.
- At the start of the 2023 season, MLB.TV rolls out smooth 60-frames-per-second streaming on every device, so fast pitches and line drives look sharper and free of judder.
- In February 2026, ESPN takes over US sales of MLB.TV under a three-year deal. The MLB.TV on ESPN version is US-only, while viewers abroad keep subscribing directly through MLB.
