How to Watch Match TV in the US: VPN Guide 2026
Since the 2026/27 season, one broadcaster owns the rights to every Russian Premier League fixture: an exclusive four-year deal worth roughly 28.5 billion rubles, approved on October 31, 2025 and valid until 2029/30. From a US connection none of it loads, because watching Match TV in the US takes a Russian IP address. The channel enforces that itself under its licensing contracts, not a government order. Gazprom-Media owns it, and it has been on air since 2015.
The main live channel streams free on the website; an account covers chat and kickoff alerts, and some broadcasts require one. Above it Match TV sells a bundle of channels: a single broadcast sells for twenty-four hours, then subscriptions start at Match Premier, with the Sport package sold alongside it for La Liga and Serie A, and M! Maximum on top. CyberGhost restores a Russian IP and the player wakes up; the paid package stays your purchase. The free feed runs in HD, Match Premier up to 1080p.

How to Unblock Match TV with a VPN
Takes about 2 minutes. Works on your phone, tablet, TV, PC, or laptop.
- Pick a VPN with Russian serversOnly a minority of providers still list a Russian location at all. CyberGhost keeps its nodes running, at $1.75 a month.Read the server list before you pay. A lot of comparison pages still advertise locations that were retired years ago.
- Connect to a Russian serverSelect Russia in the app and wait for the handshake to confirm. Without a Russian IP the player will not even attempt to load the stream.
- Open the site or the appThe main Match TV channel plays on matchtv.ru with no login. The MATCH! app covers Android TV plus Yandex and Sber sets through Google Play, RuStore, AppGallery or a direct APK.
- Check the pictureThe player takes the best profile your line can hold; the free channel stays in HD, Match Premier goes up to 1080p. If the picture keeps dropping, the VPN hop is usually the bottleneck rather than the stream: try another Russian server before blaming the player.

Who’s behind the service?
What is Match TV
Match TV, known in Russian as Матч ТВ, is a Russian sports channel and streaming site, matchtv.ru, owned by Gazprom-Media. It launched on 1 November 2015 and rebranded in 2025 for its tenth anniversary. You can watch the main live channel on the site free and without an account; a paid tier of themed channel packages sits above it. La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A and the Brazilian league all sit inside the paid СПОРТ package; the channel has held the exclusive Russian La Liga rights since 2024, on a seven-year deal. Coverage of the 2026 World Cup, which ended on 19 July, was shared with Kinopoisk, exclusive broadcaster of 35 of the 104 matches. Licensing contracts with the organisers keep every stream tied to Russian IP addresses.

Company and history
- Match TV signed on at 6:30 Moscow time, taking the frequency of the shut-down Rossiya 2. Gazprom-Media built it as a free-to-air national sports channel from day one.
- The NTV-Plus sports channels were folded into one family under the Match! banner, and an international feed for Russian speakers living elsewhere, Match! Planeta, launched on the NTV-Plus Sport frequency.
- Tina Kandelaki stepped down as general producer after six years. Alexander Tashchin took over the newsroom and still runs it, which is why his name signs off every ratings summary.
- Sanctions stripped the French, Portuguese and Scottish leagues from the schedule, Formula 1 terminated its broadcast contract in March 2022, and UEFA barred national team matches from Russian screens.
- The Premier League suspended its television contract on June 9, 2022 rather than tearing it up. Either way, Match TV never carried the 2022/23 English season and the fixtures vanished.
- The Spanish top flight came back from Okko on a seven-year Russian rights deal running to 2030/31. Marquee fixtures go out on the free federal channel, the rest of the round on the paid channels.
- At the St Petersburg economic forum Match TV unveiled a tenth-birthday logo. The gradient was dropped, and the numeral ten was carved out of the brand exclamation mark.
- Russian Premier League clubs voted unanimously for a new exclusive four-season deal starting in 2026/27. Reported value: roughly 28.5 billion rubles, running through the 2029/30 campaign.
- On the opening day of the World Cup a Kinopoisk sublicense was confirmed: 69 matches ran live across the federal channel and two paid ones, the streamer taking 35 of 104 exclusively, including a semifinal and the third-place match.
- Match TV reported 50.8 million World Cup viewers across live broadcasts and repeats, with 38.5 million for the live coverage alone and an average reach of 3.9 million per broadcast, its best figures to date.

Tips & tricks you should know
5 tips from our Match TV testing team · Updated August 24, 2026
- Check the main channel schedule before you pay: two matches from each Russian league round usually air free there, while all eight sit behind Match Premier.
- A single broadcast costs 149 rubles and its 24 hours start at first play, not at checkout, so three a month makes annual Match Premier at 2990 rubles cheaper.
- The free stream is HD with ads, Match Premier steps up to Full HD at 50 fps, and M! MAXIMUM strips advertising from the site and the apps.
- iPhone installation is unavailable, so use the website; on Android TV grab MATCH! from RuStore. Two devices play at once, with a ten minute wait when you switch.
- Rights contracts lock the streams to Russian IP addresses, so abroad you only get the region notice: connect CyberGhost to a Russian server first.
