Summer on Asphalt
Les (Mala Emde) lives life fast, spontaneously, and carefree. By day, she races through the city as a bike courier; after work, she’s off partying with her friends. Stopping, pausing, or thinking about the future? Not for Les. At least not until her father, Bert (Christoph Maria Herbst), with whom she has virtually no contact, unexpectedly shows up at her door and, after an accident, even hops on his bike for his daughter without being asked. When Les then learns of her unplanned pregnancy, she’s completely thrown into a new reality. The expectant father, Tyler (Aaron Hilmer), would love a child, but unfortunately, he’s still a child himself. Les’s world is turned upside down, and Bert hasn’t even told her yet that he’s going to die soon...

FAQ
You ask, we answer
Our Top 10 shows the most-watched movies and shows on ARD Mediathek in your country. We build it from TMDB data and refresh it every week (last updated October 2026).
Start with the Top 10 or the top-rated picks: high scores with a big audience behind them. The new-releases row shows what just landed.
Every week. We pull viewing data and ratings from TMDB, so the lineup follows real popularity instead of a fixed list.
The ARD Mediathek catalog varies by country because of licensing. A VPN unlocks content from other regions; our current pick is Surfshark.
Our current pick is Surfshark: it reliably unblocks overseas catalogs and streams smoothly. See our VPN reviews for the full comparison.
From TMDB (The Movie Database): public popularity and audience ratings. No guesswork, so the rankings match what people really watch.
When you travel, ARD Mediathek switches to the local catalog of wherever you are, or blocks playback entirely. Connect a VPN to a server back home and ARD Mediathek treats you as if you never left, with your usual library.
Yes. A VPN only changes the region ARD Mediathek sees, not your account. You still need an active ARD Mediathek subscription, the VPN just unlocks the catalogs and access you would otherwise be missing.
Barely, if you pick the right one. A premium VPN like Surfshark adds little overhead, so connect to a nearby server and you stream ARD Mediathek in full quality without buffering.
